Kids eat the most crazily named food!

2009 July 10
by Neha Kapoor

Reading Crafty’s post Born to be fed gave me a sense of assurance, that I was not alone. (No, not the midnight hogging part (although I do that now sometimes :P ) , the part where she uses a crazy name for a food item). And so I decided to come out of my shell. I decided to reveal to the world that Gulab Jamuns were(sometimes still are) Lapchakumaanu to me. That’s right. Lapchakumaanu. Don’t ask me why. I am still wondering…

Anyway, Crafty made me remember it and I was so excited that I wrote “I want a Lapchakumaanu” everywhere. Facebook, twitter, gtalk etc. and the reactions I got were howlarious!! :P

Just a few minutes ago, I chatted with my friend Animesh. What followed was, that me and Crafty are in splits right now (yes I shared it with her over gtalk) :P

*pasting the chat while gripping a tummy aching with laughter*

Animesh: what is that u want??? shit!! am not able to even say it properly

me: hahaha!

A: is it a comic character

me: nope

guess again

A: or some south indian or japanes manga character??

me: another try

A: yaar.. usually animax par character ke naam aise hi rehte hain. i cant think of anything else

me: shall i tell now?

A: whts it.. now only u can tell

me: I used to call a Gulab Jamun by this name, when i was a kiddo

A: ha!ha!ha!ha!… lolllzzzzzz :D :D :D :D :D

u used to speak which lingo..

me: I …      m           … stilll wondering

A: and u know wht neha am damn sure saying gulab jamun is definitely easier than this

:D :D

me: i swear! i hv no idea why i did this

n its true!!

read this

http://craftyshines.wordpress.com/2009/07/06/born-to-be-fed/

A: ha!ha!ha!ha!ha!

:D :D :D

u r simply great…

me: this post gave me the assurance that i m not d only one :D

A: juz a min.. am goin thru it

ha!ha!ha!

waise i too have my part of story

i had a habit of putting “ji” after everything

me: share share!

A: so i used to say alooji

bhindiji

me: omg!!!!!!!!

hahaha!

A: everything used to end with ji

and best part not limited to food..

in bengali.. insect is called “poka”

me: this is good stuff! going on my blog!!!!!!!!!!

A: i used to say “Pokaji” to cockroach :P

me: i cant stop laughing!!!!!!!!!

A: :D :D

me: blogging abt it NOW!!

A: :P

he!he!he!

me: can i name u? ;)

A: no probs…

me: hehehe

u will b famous!

A: i dont do tht now.. :P

and later on i realized the inspiration and source was i used to call my nana and nani.. as nanaji and naniji..

so i generalized the respect for everything :D

me: lol

every kid calls nana nani as ji

but not food!

A: he!he!he!

but still u score over me..

me: no u do!!!

A: saying “ji” is definitely easier than wht ever u called a gulab jamun

tell me one thing..

me: yes?

A: are u able to say tht word clearly now??

me: hehehe

yes

A: cool..

me: i invented that word!!

A: yaa… i am sure of tht

even google says 0 results

:P

me: hahaha!

A: waise.. u’ve given me gud idea..

shud actually try nd get things from my elders as to what all harkat i used to do :P

me: heheh

pls do

btw do u blog?

A: naah.. havent tried yet..

me: ok then tell me abt it i’ll write a post

:D

HAHAHA!! I mean, what kind of a crazy kid calls food as jee??

You people tell me? Who scored over who? I say definitely him! :D

*chuckling away*

makes sense to respect the food we eat… it gives us our life.. and it tastes delicious… but it doesn’t make sense to give a wierd name to a tasty sweet (damn i miss gulab jamun!)

    • 2009 July 10

respect to food… You say it like a yogi or something… ROFL

and the name is not weird!! At least its cute!

you very well know the reason behind identity crisis…. :-) A small correction.. I wasn’t a crazy kid.. that happens to be a recent development.. ;) and “aalooji” definitely sounds cute… lolzzz…. ;)

  10. 2009 July 11

next time while eating gulab jamun i definately remember this LAPCHAKUMAANU Ji saga :P

  14. 2009 July 11

First I thought that the sounds of the word LAPCHAKUMAANU can be shuffled across a bit to KULAPCHAMAANU..Chuck that AA and put the U in between. I think you have KULAPCHAMUN. For all I know, thats how Tamils write it.

And yes, Animesh was just showing his respect to the vegetables. :D

    • 2009 July 12

OMG!!! Thank you for that!!!! :D
Now I at least have some idea abt why I coined such a name!

  15. 2009 July 11

LOL!! Neha I cant even pronounce this! I atleast tried with Crafty’s word but this is beyond me! :D

    too hilarious!:D

btw I also used to say JI for everything:D

    ROFL !!!!

Btw, is that your friends real name — Animesh ???? No offience, but its like a combination of Animal and Ramesh (or any name that ends with -sh)

(I hope your sportive buddy takes the above statement of mine sportively, or else please dont even tell that you know me ! )

on second thoughts, I should have said Animation and Ramesh ! Duh !!! Im so dumb !!!!

    • 2009 July 12

haha yeah that chat was fun. He would have googled it when I asked him to guess what it was :D Even Google couldnt help

And what is vimmuuu btw? Sounds like a cow just mooed after Vim bar.

      • 2009 July 12

LOL, tit for tat, huh ??? Well, Vimmuuu has a meaning. its V-i-double m-triple u ! Double you give me (m), triple I give you (u) !!!!

Bizarre, isnt it? I didnt keep it; my friends did !!! :D

  18. 2009 July 12

neha ji that was a good post… animesh ji has been extremely respectful towards one and all… kudos to him for that… in this world where people hardly respect each other, I find the animesh jis extremely inspiring!

btw LAPCHAKUMAANU <– what is the meaning of this word?

    • 2009 July 12

      Respectful haha yeah :P

And Lapchakumaanu is a word I coined! Didnt u read the post???

  19. 2009 July 12

    @vimmuuu
Dude, Animesh (ji) is not a combination of names. it is just Animesh (ji). And do add the suffix ‘ji’ after his name. you should respect him yaar.

    • 2009 July 12

      :D :D

yeah respect him. After all, he’s the one who gave the idea for this post :D heehee

  20. 2009 July 12

    ha ha ha… :D

    thats really funny :)

  21. 2009 July 12

Ha..ha..ha.. you came up with such a difficult word for Gulab jamun. My daughter simply says ‘jambu’.

    • 2009 July 12

I’m still trying to figure that out!!
btw its not difficult.Try saying it. Its addictive :D

and jambu is cute!!! hugs to her!

  22. 2009 July 12

You must be one crazy kid! Usually kids try to use simplified names but why in the name of god will someone use such a complex name for GulabJamun!!

Now I remember one stupidity of mine. I used to call Rajma – Rajmummy!

  23. 2009 July 13

You definately score over him…that word seems like a vomit out of the mouth :P ..I guess that ‘ji’ is very common in our society kids tend to suffix their elder’s with ‘ji’ and at that age almost everything seems elder to them ,even aloo gobbi :D

  24. 2009 July 13

this Lapchakumaanu is a real tongue twister.. dint u find it easier to just say gulab jamun??lol
please tell ur friend, he is the most kind person i ever met. calling sabzis ji? wat a respectful way to address them.. i only wish the sabzis cud appreciate his thoughfulnes! :P

  25. 2009 July 13

No body scores over any body!!!

You all are class apart!!! :D

  26. 2009 July 14

Thank you for this post… had some great laughs!! :)
That word is indeed a real tongue twister, though I’ll concede its cute! :)
Being a bengali, the cockroach term made me convulse with heavy, unadulterated laughter!! You must pass on my regards to Animesh!
I’d say we all have uniquely hilarious incidents from our childhood.. wonder what crazy laughter our grown ups derive now, when they think back on the frivolity of those days.. and compare it with a present day image of us!

    • 2009 July 14

Oh so you’re a bengali! nice nice :) Sure will pass on your message to him :)
haha…yeah thats true that parents must be amused at what stuff we used to say and do! But for them we are kids forever! :D

  27. 2009 July 14

LoL! I use to have werid names for food too. ;-)

BUt I don’t have a clue how to say yours. :-P
